The Clergy of the Church of England Database (CCEd) is a collaborative project, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and bringing together scholars from King's College London, the University of Kent at Canterbury and the University of Reading. Its objective is to create a relational database documenting the careers of all Church of England clergymen between 1540 and 1835.

This website not only gives access to the Database, but also provides a range of supporting materials about the Church and its clergy. It is recommended that anyone consulting the Database for the first time read the Help for first-time users.

	News 2008-08-20: ''James Mayne, Curate of Bethnal Green', by Richard Palmer We are pleased to announce the appearance of a new 'Note & Query' in the CCEd Online Journal. Dr Richard Palmer, the Librarian and Archivist of Lambeth Palace Library, has contributed an article exploring the life and career of James Mayne. Mayne was the early nineteenth-century curate of Bethnal Green who was featured in the BBC's 'Who Do You Think You Are' programme about Patsy Kensit, broadcast on 13 August 2008. The CCEd, represented by Arthur Burns, played a part in the making of this programme, and we are pleased to announce that an article will shortly appear in the CCEd Online Journal about 'James Mayne, Curate of Bethnal Green', who was one of Patsy Kensit's ancestors. The article has been written by Dr Richard Palmer, the Librarian and Archivist of Lambeth Palace Library. 2008-08-12: Major upgrade of website A major upgrade of the website is planned for the autumn. The Database will be relaunched with a re-designed user interface and a new search engine. At this point we expect that the Database will include 100,000 individuals. Content of the Database

This website is a developing resource. Much of the data that has been collected is not yet available via the public website. To find out what diocese and periods are covered, go to Current content of the Database. Please note, however, that material is continually being added; upgrades every two months usually add at least 2,000 new names and new locations. The accompanying web resources are also added to on a regular basis.

Additional material, provided by users of the Database, is also added where appropriate. If you have such material, we encourage you to contact the Project Office with details. We also encourage submissions to our on-line journal, CCEd Research Online .
